SOAP BUYER GUIDE
10 Questions to Ask a Chinese Soap Factory Before Ordering
By Foshan Meixin Biotechnology Co., Ltd. · MEIXIN
A useful supplier enquiry goes beyond asking for a price. Bring these ten questions to your next discussion with a soap factory, and keep the answers alongside your product brief and sample approvals.
1. Can you manufacture the soap type in my brief?
Describe the intended use and the type of bar, then ask the supplier to confirm the process and product category. Request examples relevant to your requirements. Clarify which operations are performed by the factory and whether any are outsourced.
2. Which formulation requirements can you support?
Share preferred ingredients, ingredients to avoid and fragrance requirements. Ask what can be adjusted, what needs development and what needs testing. If formula ownership or exclusivity matters to your brand, ask for the proposed terms in writing before development starts.
3. What is the minimum order quantity for each option?
Ask separately about the formula, bar size, colour, fragrance and packaging. Check whether combining variants changes minimum quantities or pricing. State your planned first order and possible repeat order quantities so the quotation reflects your needs.
4. How are samples prepared and approved?
Ask about sample charges, the number of revisions, expected preparation time and what the sample represents. Confirm whether the sample uses the intended production process and packaging. Record the approved specifications and identify the reference sample both parties will use.
5. How will you confirm bar weight, dimensions and colour?
Provide weight in grams and dimensions in a clearly stated unit. Ask for proposed tolerances and when measurements are taken. Agree a physical or otherwise clearly defined colour reference where needed; a screen preview or approximate colour match should not be the only approval criterion.
6. What logo and packaging options are feasible?
Send your artwork and preferred packaging format. Ask about mould or tooling charges, artwork requirements and proof approval. Confirm who supplies the packaging, who checks the final text and how the packed product will be reviewed before production.
7. Which documents are available for my destination market?
State the destination country, intended product use and planned product claims. Ask which ingredient information, test reports and other documents the supplier can provide for this exact product. Verify their scope and arrange qualified advice on destination-market requirements before committing to sale.
8. What is included in the quotation?
Request a written breakdown of unit price and any separate development, mould, packaging, inspection, testing or shipping charges. Confirm the currency, payment schedule, delivery terms and quotation validity. Comparing like-for-like terms helps avoid unexpected costs.
9. What are the production and shipping milestones?
Ask when the production schedule begins and what approvals or materials it depends on. Distinguish production completion from shipment and arrival estimates. Confirm how delays or changes will be communicated, and avoid treating an unconfirmed target date as a delivery commitment.
10. How will quality issues and repeat orders be handled?
Agree the inspection process, acceptance criteria and how a problem should be reported. Discuss the proposed remedy process and keep the approved specification accessible. For repeat orders, ask how formula, material or packaging changes will be communicated and approved.
